There are so many creative ways to use technology to advance the Kingdom. One neat tool you might not think of is a micro-SD smartphone adaptor: basically a flash drive for smartphones, which can connect via USB C or micro-USB. Instead of purchasing individual SD cards to be installed on people’s phones, this adaptor can be used by many different people to download and share Gospel material.
Renew World Outreach’s Josiah came on our podcast to share his ideas for ways this adaptable little tool can be used.
The first use relies on the fact that much of the world outside of the global West, most people use Android phones. 70% of the world uses Android! That’s important “because Android allows you to install apps off a flash drive. You can put the Zúme content in app form onto that flash drive, plug it into someone’s phone, and install that app right onto their phone—even if the internet is slow, even if you don’t have the best internet access.” Instead of every user needing access to the internet to download material like Bible apps and Zúme training, one person can get that material on a micro-SD smartphone adaptor and share it with entire communities.
Josiah also has a vision for how this tool could be used as a comprehensive distribution strategy. Once you have the Zúme app on one, for example, you could both distribute the content and plug it into someone’s TV or computer to play the videos for an entire group to learn together.
“A church planter could go and make friends in a community. They can invite people to watch a movie. They could plug this into the people’s TV, watch a film about Jesus . . . and then have a discussion about it. Plug this into people’s phones and install the Bible on their phones, start a discovery Bible study, continue in relationship, and then eventually plug this into their phones and install the Zúme training right onto their phones so that they can become trainers and they can begin to multiply disciples.”
All this from one little device, and all this without internet.
