What is the true measure of faith in Jesus? It might be praying a special prayer or believing that Jesus is who he says he is or going to church every week or meeting with other believers. It might be learning about theology or serving in a church or ministry. But what is lacking in all of these?
Our goal at Zúme is to make disciples who make disciples. “Disciples” doesn’t mean “people who profess faith,” or “people who attend church meetings.” Disciples are people who learn from and follow Jesus, and who share what they know with others.
You don’t have to have perfect, extensive training to become a disciple. You also don’t have to have perfect knowledge in order to share your knowledge with others. What do you need?
“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.” (1 Cor. 13:1–3)
To successfully share the Gospel story, to make disciples who make disciples, we have to be disciples worth multiplying.
To be disciples worth multiplying, we need to obey out of love. Christ said, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching” (John 14:23–24). We must be rooted in God’s Word and in Jesus to bear the fruit of a life with him (John 15). With that fruit can come more disciples—disciples worth multiplying.
